One of the most popular RRO games is Quest. There are 4 different types of quest and they are best enjoyed with friends. Playing a quest provides XP and when you complete a quest you get a new clothing item as well as a Rank. Ranks are organized as follows:

S rank  A rank  B rank  C rank (organized from Best to worst).

Ranks are given based on your score in a quest. You get more points for killing enemies but if you die you lose between 1,000 – 3,000 points (depending on the Quest). Ranks also give you better clothing type. S rank has the best looking clothing while C rank items are common and simple.

 Dorm Room

When you start your Virtual Journey, you spawn in a place called the Dorm Room. Here you can customize your avatar with a huge mirror that allows you to look at yourself. This mirror is really cool! I particularly enjoy admiring my S-Rank clothing in the mirror (More on that later). Customizing your avatar is easy but only available in your Dorm Room. Simply point at your wardrobe and select a category, such as hats or shirts. You can choose your outfit from a selection of default clothing and you can obtain more items by completing Quests or buying clothing with Tokens.

The Dorm Room also contains some fun yet random objects like a confetti gun and a whiteboard that you can draw on. Other objects like this can be found in the Rec Centre.

Leveling up doesn’t make you more powerful but gives you respect among other players and also a way to get tokens. Note that you can only level up you in RRO games and not in user-created games.

The max level you can reach at the moment is 30. It took me a total of around 40 hours of playing to reach this level. I hope that in the future they will allow higher levels as there are quite a lot of players that are at this level.

 Rec Centre

The Rec Centre is the main lobby where people meet up and access all REC ROOM Original (RRO) games. To join a party you need to simply fist-bump another player and you will automatically join their party. When any of the party members join a game, the rest of the party is prompted to join as well. You can also just socialize and talk to other players in the Rec Centre. If you find someone interesting that you’d like to keep in touch with, simply shake their hand and they will be added to your friends list.

The Rec Centre is also the gateway to all of the RRO Games which include:

  • Soccer
  • Paddleball
  • Disc Golf
  • Dodgeball
  • 3D Charades
  • Paintball
  • Laser Tag
  • Quests (4 types)
  • Rec Royale

The RRO games can provide hours of fun and I suggest simply exploring them all!

‘Cheers’ are the REC ROOM version of ‘Like’. You can give ‘Cheers’ to other players when they do something positive, host a game, play fair etc. There are several types of cheers for different occasions. When someone gets 6 Cheers of the same type they get an icon of that cheer next to their name.

Each cheer lasts up to 45 days before it runs out. To give a Cheer to someone you need to make the thumbs-up gesture and point it at the player you want to Cheer.

 Watch Menu

To navigate and communicate, REC ROOM has a special Watch Menu that you can access by turning your hand in the same way you would look at a watch on your hand. A (virtual) watch will appear along with a pop up menu. This menu has many options on including “People”, “Games”, “Store” etc. You can access your Dorm Room or any other game from this menu and communicate with friends and change the settings.
